The Chicken Connection

A little nod to Bungay

You may have noticed the little chicken in our logo.

It’s not there by accident. Our pub sits right by one of Bungay’s most famous local landmarks — the legendary Chicken Roundabout.

For generations, the roundabout was home to a flock of free-roaming chickens, becoming one of those wonderfully eccentric local stories that made Bungay quite unlike anywhere else. At its height, the flock numbered in the hundreds, and local resident Gordon Knowles  affectionately known as the “Chicken Man of Bungay”  looked after them for many years.

So when we created our identity, it felt only right to give a little nod to that history.

Rather than make it the whole story, we’ve kept the chicken subtle,  a small wink to those who know, and a conversation starter for those who don’t.

 

It’s our way of celebrating the place we’re lucky enough to call home, and adding a little bit of Bungay character to our pub.

Ps. There are no chickens currently living at Barwoods, or the roundabout.
